Stations of the Cross Walk

Holy Week at Broadway

Broadway marked Good Friday with the Stations of the Cross Walk in front of Rick's Garden just outside the church (above) and on Broadway Street (below). This was part of a number of Holy Week events at Broadway.
Broadway reaches funding goal for renovations!

Broadway has some great news to share! With the latest grants and individual donations we have obtained, our fundraising for a major renovation of our social hall Hospitality Program area is complete! In December we received a $25,000 challenge grant from the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County ( ”Click Here”. This means they match dollar per dollar whatever donations from individuals or organizations we obtain.

This is in addition to three other grants we have obtained that total $65,000, including $15,000 from the Thomas F. Bunge Foundation, all given to help cover a total preliminary renovation budget of $115,250. And here's the big news; we have just received the final donations to go "over the top" of our fundraising goal!

This is the most significant renovation our church has seen in more than 50 years and will go a long way toward increasing our capacity to not only serve our guests better but to also encourage support from funders for other projects and outreach initiatives. Many years of use and the exceptional crowds (well over 100 people on some days) we have drawn to our morning Hospitality Program have made the necessity of repair and renovation imperative. The hospitality Program runs Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and includes a breakfast and opportunities to take a shower, do small loads of laundry, receive some basic clothing assistance and assistance with other particular needs, including obtaining birth certifications and other documentation required to obtain ID cards and benefits. The Food Pantry is also open during this time.

Ongoing support still needed
As you can imagine, the heavy demand for our hospitality services is stretching our operational budget as well, and will probably stretch it further with the new facilities, so we will continue to need people’s ongoing support.

Over the past year we received some pro bono assistance from Kathy Schuth of Alliance Architects, who has helped us create a renovation plan that includes additional and handicapped accessible bathroom, shower and laundry facilities along with new flooring, lighting and renovation of existing bathrooms. The gray areas in the posted renovation plan show some of the critical renovation elements

We invite you to read the Broadway 2014 Annual Report:

Making room for all
Since the late 1960s, Broadway has been serving God by actively engaging with and serving our neighbors. Our ministries of hospitality include a food pantry and a breakfast and fellowship time Monday through Thursday mornings -- a place to come in off the street and take a shower, get a fresh set of clothing, do laundry, and receive other assistance. And, on Sundays our congregation -- along with other congregations and groups that support our ministry -- serves Sunday dinner to all who come. For more than 30 years we have together served some 100 people each Sunday.

Broadway offers a regular church program of worship, study, and fellowship, as well as social, emotional, spiritual, and logistical support to those who enter our building on a daily basis for whatever reason. We also provide pastoral care to many who find themselves in jail.

Our Broadway Jubilee Christmas Store provides gifts and Christmas dinners for families in need. And, we offer neighborhood programming, Bible study, reading programs, fellowship, and discussion groups, and other activities throughout the year.
