A number of unexpected expenses have depleted our reserves and recent income has not been keeping up with our expenses. We are looking at ways to reduce costs but we are at the moment in real danger of having to cut programs, staff and staff salaries. We need to raise at least $10,000 immediately, but preferably closer to $20,000 to give us the operating cushion we truly need.

We know we have appealed for emergency funds in the past, and many of you have been generous in that regard. We would not be doing this again if the situation were not dire. Plans for a bigger and better silent auction fundraiser for the fall (Oct. 16, save the date!) have been going well, and the Parish Board will be meeting about a more formal fundraising campaign soon, but we can¹t wait for those plans to bear fruit. To pay current salaries and mounting bills, we need more funds now.

Please see the attached appeal letter from Pastor Nancy along with the description of Broadway¹s current ministries. In addition to an immediate contribution, we are asking that you forward this email and these documents along with your own appeal to anyone you think might be inclined to help. Feel free to post it on Facebook.

Broadway is a United Methodist ministry on South Bend’s Southeast side. Since the late 1960s, Broadway has been engaged in direct service to our neighbors. Our ministries of hospitality include a food pantry, a breakfast and fellowship time each weekday morning, a place to come in off the street and take a shower, get a fresh set of clothing, do laundry and receive other assistance. On Sundays, our congregation serves Sunday Dinner to anyone who comes. For twenty-five years we have served over 100 people each Sunday.

Our staff provides pastoral support to many who find themselves in jail; social, emotional, and spiritual support to those who enter our building on a daily basis for whatever reason; and a regular church program of worship, study, and fellowship.

In addition to these weekly activities, Broadway provides gifts and Christmas dinners through our Jubilee Christmas Store, has fellowship and neighborhood programming, and provides Bible study, discussion groups and other activities throughout the year.
